Deli Department Manager
Boise Co-op

Do you have a passion for food, leadership, and creating unforgettable customer experiences?
We’re looking for a Deli Department Manager who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. In this role, you’ll oversee all aspects of our deli operations—leading and developing staff, ensuring world-class customer service, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and inspire a team by setting clear expectations, coaching for success, and building strong workplace morale.
• Manage day-to-day deli operations, including staff scheduling, hiring, and training.
• Ensure our deli is clean, organized, and compliant with all food safety and sanitation regulations (Idaho food laws included!).
• Maintain high product quality by monitoring inventory, ordering products, and ensuring proper rotation and display.
• Deliver outstanding customer service and create a welcoming environment for our guests.
• Collaborate with leadership and the Category Management team on recipe execution, promotions, and sales strategies.
• Meet and exceed department goals for sales, labor, and margin while maintaining efficiency and reducing shrink.
• Serve as Leader-on-Duty (L.O.D.) shifts as scheduled, focusing on the entire store’s success.
• Uphold the Boise Co-op’s values with integrity, positivity, and a solutions-focused mindset.

What We’re Looking For:

• A confident leader with at least 3 years of retail department management experience.
• Knowledge of food safety practices, cooking terminology, allergens, and recipe execution.
• Exceptional communication skills—clear, constructive, and adaptable.
• Problem-solving skills that balance customer satisfaction with company protocols.
• Tech-savvy with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• A positive, collaborative attitude with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Bonus Points:

• Culinary school training or experience in the service industry.
• ServSafe Manager Certification.
• A genuine passion for great food and community-focused service.

Physical Demands:

Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an grocery store setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight of up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Utilization of proper PPE when using appliances and equipment. Employees must be able to climb and balance on step stools or ladders, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed. Repetitive arm and hand motions, as well as reaching above shoulders and horizontally to stock and retrieve inventory, are essential.

Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a kitchen and grocery store environment with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
